Trevor back on track after first interview in 16 years
Trevor Jones, a customer form our Links to Work programme in Dorest is well on the way to finding employment after securing his first interview in 16 years.
Trevor signed up to Links to Work in Dorset in February 2017 after hearing about the programme from his Jobcentre Plus Advisor. Despite being on several employability support programmes in the past and describing attending jobs clubs as his hobbies, Trevor had not secured a job interview since 2001. This has had a real effect on his confidence.
Trevor previously worked in a warehouse but in 2003 was made redundant and hasn't had paid employment since. The lack of employment and interviews caused Trevor's confidence to plummet which resulted in low motivation. He was struggling to identify suitable positions and could not see where his skills would fit in.
Since joining Links to Work Trevor has received a range of support. His Personal Consultant Nick McKay worked with Trevor to identify his skills and appropriate job roles. He supported Trevor in completing his CV, cover letters and application forms. Trevor also received support from our Health Advisor Bernadette Jones. He attended one to one sessions focusing on building his confidence and several group workshops. Trevor is also part of the Links to Work weekly walking group.
In June this year Trevor secured an interview with a national retail company, supplying hardware materials to the trade industries. He was extremely nervous but with the support of our Employer Services Consultant Emma Davis and the continued support of Nick and Bernadette he completed the interview. Trevor fed back to Nick that he felt he represented himself well and the experience was useful for his development.
Unfortunately Trevor was unsuccessful on this occasion but the experience has helped him to grow in confidence. This is something the whole of the Dorset Links to Work team have noticed. Personal Consultant Nick said "Trevor was demotivated, quiet and lacking in confidence when he first joined the Links to Work programme. In a relatively short space of time he has achieved so much. He now engages in conversations and speaks up when in a group setting. He has many skills and will be an asset to any workplace. We are all very proud of him".
Trevor continues to receive support from the Links to Work team and is ready for his next interview and challenge. Trevor said of his experience so far "I really like the support and feel the staff at Links to Work really want to help me personally".
Keep up the good work Trevor. We'll look forward to supporting you in the next step of your journey in to employment.
